Beat to Postlanguage (LTAM 104K)

Andrew’s creative work in this course stood out by virtue of its sometimes bewilderingly idiosyncratic rhetorical and formal gestures. ┬áHis first written assignment combined critical “glosses” with witty, elliptical blocks of poetic text; his final assignment used a Bernadette Mayer writing experiment to generate a journal-poem that is one the most resonant pieces of student writing I have read. ┬áThe commentary to the poem included a sharp, rigorous breakdown of points from Ron Silliman’s The New Sentence. Overall, Andrew’s performance was excellent.
