Beat to Postlanguage (LTAM 104K)

Andrew’s creative work in this course stood out by virtue of its sometimes bewilderingly idiosyncratic rhetorical and formal gestures.  His first written assignment combined critical “glosses” with witty, elliptical blocks of poetic text; his final assignment used a Bernadette Mayer writing experiment to generate a journal-poem that is one the most resonant pieces of student writing I have read.  The commentary to the poem included a sharp, rigorous breakdown of points from Ron Silliman’s The New Sentence. Overall, Andrew’s performance was excellent.
